The event was hosted by the President of the International Korczak Association and the UNESCO Chairholder, Professor Anna Odrowąż-Coates, who enthusiastically explained the nature of the award and encouraged doctoral students to consider methodological tools used by Prof. Hermilio Santos in his studies.
Professor Santos received the award in recognition of his effort to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 4,5 and 10, and especially for raising awareness through documentary film production in support of youth and children in danger of social exclusion.
Amongst present faculty members, dr Cecilia Maria Zsögön from Sociology Department provided a guided tour of the campus, whilst, Prof. Błażej Przybylski, Prof. Elżbieta Strutyńska, Prof. Anna Perkowska-Klejman represented the Polish Educational Research Association (Warsaw division), which was the co-organizer of the event.

*In 2024 our UNESCO Chair named after Janusz Korczak (an important figure on the map of children’s rights in our region) celebrated the 20th anniversary of its operations at the Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw. Dr Korczak was indeed our employee before the Second World War and left a significant mark on our mission and our educational philosophy.
To denote this special occasion our university Senate decided to organize a special award, a medal for life-long achievements in the field of human rights, children’s rights and education for peace.
