Profesor Bosacki pracuje na Wydziale Studiów Edukacyjnych Uniwersytetu Brock w Ontario (Kanada), gdzie prowadzi zajęcia z zakresu psychologii rozwojowej i edukacyjnej, w tym psychologii tożsamości, rozwoju i dobrostanu w edukacji, rozwoju teorii umysłu, życia emocjonalnego w klasie oraz metod badań edukacyjnych.

Od 2002 do 2016 roku prof. Bosacki pełniła funkcję Associate Editor w International Journal of Children’s Spirituality, a od 2014 roku pełni funkcję Assistant Editor w Journal of Adolescent.

"Mental and social worlds of the adolescent: Mentalization, identity, and well-being"

Abstrakt wystąpienia

This talk will explore our past and current research on mentalization skills in youth and the implications for identity, relationships, and overall well-being. Specifically, I will discuss adolescents’ (10-18 years) mentalization skills such as Theory of Mind (ToM) (emotional recognition, perspective-taking), and how such skills interlink with their self-processes and peer relations within the school setting. Although many studies explore mentalization skills in childhood, little is known about their social and emotional correlates throughout the phases of adolescence (early, mid, late). With a focus on developmental psychology and education, I will also explore what motivates adolescents to use their social and self-skills to help or harm themselves and others. For example, as a sociocommunicative tool, is ToM or mindreading used to be mindful of, and cooperate with others; or is it used to self-harm, and manipulate and deceive others? I will finish by outlining the implications of our research for theory and practice, and provide recommendations for future research and education. Developmentally appropriate inclusive models of education will be discussed as a way to promote a balance of social and solitude skills that combine relationship management with self-regulation and self-compassion. To conclude, I will summarize key themes across our current research with Canadian adolescents and discuss the implications for educators to work towards a pedagogy of mindful compassion and well-being.
