The exhibition "Word is a Pretext" is in line with the theme of this year's 16th UNESCO International Summer School, which will see the official opening of the exhibition on 12.09.2023 at 12.00 p.m. This year's Summer School is dedicated to discourse analysis in the light of research on social inclusion, politics and education and is organised in partnership with the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, under the patronage of the Polish National Commission for UNESCO. THE WORD IS THE PRETEXT

We have the human privilege of using words, giving meanings, expressing ourselves and our relationship to the world, to others. The only limitations we have are in ourselves, our skills, imagination, sensitivity. It depends on us how we describe the environment we live in and what language we choose to communicate with other people. We have also been endowed with the gift of visualizing concepts, translating human speech into images, searching for meaningful connections between speech and fine art.
Such an attempt to create their own translations and associations was made by two artists: Anna Ludwicka and Barbara Janina Sochal, using the language of graphics, painting and ceramics, they set individual verbal and image paths. These associations are not simple and easy to accept, and the world depicted in them does not only the positive side.
With images, they tell about the richness of human speech and about the values they follow, also point to words that give wings. They reach for affirmations, metaphors and quotations from literary authorities. They talk about matters important to them, and of course they are no strangers to a sense of humor.
