CREAN representatives from the Board Office at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, organized a special scientific seminar with the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair in Social Pedagogy entitled: The Hate Speech and the Negative Discourses. During the seminar, participants of the 16th International UNESCO Summer School presented the preliminary results of their scientific research on language and discourse.
The programme included a special presentation by the guest speaker from the University of Regina, Canada, Professor Taiwo Afolabi on the topic "Theatre for cultural and religious diversity", which is directly related to the project Empathy: Challenging discourse about Islam and Muslims in Poland, EU funded: 101049389 CERV-2021-EQUAL.
A screening of a sociological-anthropological film directed by Prof. Dr. Hermílio Santos on childhood in at-risk poverty districts in Brazil was also scheduled. Clips from the film >>
Among the invited experts, we welcomed representatives of the partner UNESCO Chairs of the UniTwin network from Ireland and the USA, Prof. Mark Brennan and Prof. Pat Dolan. We also welcomed, among others, visiting professors of the Maria Grzegorzewska University: Professor Darrick Smith from the University of San Francisco, USA, Professor Marthinus S. Condradie from the Free State University in South Africa and Professor Seran Demiral representing Turkish universities.
