Sustainability Projects at APS


In line with the execution of SDGs, APS is currently participating in the following green and climate change- related projects:


”GREEN HEAT” – project aimed at collaborative local decarbonization, that is focussed on elimination of air pollution. The overarching goal of the project is to contribute to the elimination of the use of fossil fuel boilers in Poland by developing effective scenarios for the decarbonisation of heating systems at the household scale. Participatory methodology will include collaboration with residents, technology suppliers, city councils, local businesses, potential investors, government agencies and NGOs.

The project has a funding of PLN 5 710 182 (funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, within the EEA funds).

”GREENCOIN” - project aimed at introducing alternative pro-ecological currency to enhance carbon neutrality. The point of the project is to create a green currency, which will be a prize for pro- environmental behaviours. It will be possible to use the „green coin” to pay for green products and services. The project will be tested in the city of Gdańsk from December 2022 until November 2023.

Greencoin project has a funding of PLN 8 432 288 (funded by Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, within the EEA funds).

The project executes SDG 12- Responsible Consumption and Production.

SmartFood: Engaging citizens in food diversity in cities - the overarching aim of the project is to develop and test innovative socio-technological solutions for sustainable food production and consumption towards sustainable and smart cities of the future.

Specific objectives of the project:

  1. to integrate the latest interdisciplinary research on urban food consumption and production with a novel approach to co-create healthy plant- and insect-based, soil-free food while using locally available rainwater and solar energy for year-round sustainable and safe food production in urban block corridors;
  2. Within the framework of home food production, to reduce the environmental footprint by lowering greenhouse gas emissions resulting from food production and transport;
  3. to carry out a controlled socio-technological experiment to test a new technology for self-produced food and its impact on the environment, behavioural changes and consumption attitudes of urban residents.

The results of the project will be used to develop recommendations and guidance for sustainable urban policies in cities of the future. We are working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.

The project has a funding of PLN 3 893 819 PLN (funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, within the EEA funds and Norwegian Financial Mechanism for years 2014- 2021).

The project executes SDG 12 - Responsible Production and Consumption

Green school backpack for the Earth's climate – aims to raise civic awareness of environmental protection and human health by providing support to primary classroom teachers in the area of education for sustainable development. The aim of the Education Programme is institutional cooperation to improve the quality and relevance of educational provision at all levels and in all forms (excluding VET and vocational continuing education).

The project has a funding of EUR 80 480 (within the Norway Financing Mechanism and subwention of the state).

Partner of the Project: University of Adger.

ATTUNE - the aim of the project is to enable members of the university community to move from knowledge to action and to contribute to the green transformation. Universities are key actors in creating a more sustainable world.

The project consists of two stages:

  1. individual reflection through a set of questionnaires and manuals on reducing the carbon footprint of everyday activities at universities,
  2. creation of teams whose task is to assess and propose actions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint.
