The year of 2022 was the 100th anniversary of APS, opened in 1922 and the year of our Patroness Maria Grzegorzewska. The establishment of the year 2022 as the Year of Maria Grzegorzewska has resulted in an increased interest in the work of Our Patroness, as well as in the Maria Grzegorzewska University.

In her speech, the Rector of APS dr hab. Barbara Marcinkowska, Prof. APS recalled three of the most important Women of our 100th anniversary: Maria Grzegorzewska, Sister Małgorzata Chmielewska, who was awarded an honorary doctorate during the University's festivities, and Mrs Wanda Traczyk-Stawska, whose actions display values in line with the University's Mission.

In the next part of the ceremony, Professor Marcin Pałys (former Rector of the University of Warsaw, Board member of European University Association) delivered a lecture entitled 'Autonomous and accountable: the universities we need'. Professor Pałys pointed out that widespread communication using social media, instead of the expected facilitation of the exchange of ideas and views, fosters the creation of closed information bubbles, and that the social polarisation destroys public debate and mutual trust, leading to the erosion of democracy visible in many countries, including Poland. Professor also noticed that the increase in wealth has not removed inequalities, nor the exclusions, on the contrary, it has revealed their new, previously unseen forms. These are areas where universities should see their work to be done.

The event was concluded with a mini recital by the Polish musician, composer and singer Tadeusz Woźniak, who performed together with his son Filip.

During the APS Senate Ceremonial Meeting, state distinctions were awarded and doctoral and postdoctoral promotions were presented.
