Research

Scientific research is one of the most important tasks of the Maria Grzegorzewska University.

The scope of research conducted at the Maria Grzegorzewska University is related to undergraduate and graduate majors offered at the University. This includes such areas of training as education, special education, artistic education, social prevention and social work, philosophy, sociology, and psychology, among others.

Interdisciplinary basic and applied research is focused on the following issues:

  • needs and opportunities for education and rehabilitation of people with disabilities and socially inept persons;
  • conditionalities and effectiveness of the rehabilitation process of people with disabilities and socially inept persons;
  • computerization of special education;
  • measuring and origins of different types of creativity;
  • consequences of social comparisons in a classroom and school for one’s self-esteem and their influence on academic achievements;
  • the role of the atmosphere within a school in recognizing students’ creativity by teachers; training of special educators;
  • development of education and special education theories and their standing in comparison with other countries;
  • psychosocial functioning of youth and young adults with autism and other significant developmental disabilities;
  • supporting recovery of people with mental disabilities;
  • mental health of people with intellectual disabilities;
  • globalization process and its influence on different areas of life; opportunities and dangers of cyberspace;
  • ethics and democracy;
  • sociology of culture;
  • sociology and anthropology of family, personality, and social development;
  • psychological conditions of health and illness;
  • psychological methods of promoting health;
  • counselling and crisis intervention;
  • motivational background of identity;
  • social factors that influence emotional, physiological, and behavioral reactions to social exclusion;
  • the effectiveness of memory distortion prevention.

The majority of these studies are conducted by interdisciplinary research teams in cooperation with domestic and international research institutes.

Recently, the Maria Grzegorzewska University research teams have been carrying out numerous research projects funded by the National Science Center. Some of these projects have already been completed (Sonata 1, Sonata 4, Preludium 2). Currently, researchers at the Maria Grzegorzewska University conduct over a dozen research projects that have been awarded funding by the National Science Center under its funding schemes (Opus 4, Opus 5, Opus 7, Opus 9, Sonata 8). Moreover, the Maria Grzegorzewska University researchers regularly apply for funding opportunities under the Opus 13, Preludium 13, and Miniatura 1 schemes. Furthermore, the University conducts several studies funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as well as projects financed by Erasmus + . In addition, the University carries out many research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education subsidies granted on a yearly basis in order to maintain the University’s research potential and to enable young researchers and doctoral students to conduct their own research projects or engage in other capacity building activities.

Publishing nad presentations

Scientific output of the Maria Grzegorzewska University researchers is regularly published in monographs and domestic as well as international scientific journals that can be found on the special list approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In addition, the University publishes seven scientific journals of its own. All of them are officially recognized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Some of those journals are available in paper versions:

  1. Szkoła Specjalna (Special School);
  2. Człowiek – Niepełnosprawność – Społeczeństwo (Human – Disability – Society);
  3. Psychologia Wychowawcza (Educational Psychology);
  4. Praca Socjalna (Social Work).

The two remaining journals: International Journal of Pedagogy, Innovation and New Technologies (IJPINT) and Studies in Global Ethics and Global Education are available online. Furthermore, the University operates a science publishing house which specializes in publishing peer-reviewed monographs.

Research results of the Maria Grzegorzewska University employees are also presented on domestic and international academic conferences. Furthermore, each year the University faculty gains new members who earned their Ph.D. degrees as a result of their research work.

International Cooperation

In addition, the University closely cooperates with international academic institutions on the basis of bilateral agreements. These agreements resulted in the following joint projects:

  • European Masters Programme in Recovery and Social Inclusion – RAISE
  • CAMILLE – Empowerment of Children and Adolescents of Mentally Ill Parents through Training of Professionals
  • ERASMUS PLUS – Innovation Laboratories in the development of competences of special education teachers and people with special educational needs
  • EOG Funds – Environmental education for sustainable development as a part of teachers’ training

The Maria Grzegorzewska University participates in research and scientific cooperation with various institutions, i.a.:

  • Department of Sociology and Social Work at the Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine)
  • Francisc I. Rainer Anthropology Institute of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest, Romania)
  • The Kazakh State Women’s Teacher Training University (Almaty, Kazakhstan)
  • Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Almaty, Kazakhstan)
  • National Pingtung University (Taiwan).
