The Maria Grzegorzewska University (APS) invites everyone interested to a seminar and workshop dedicated to the foundations of Global Citizenship Education and critical approaches to contemporary global issues in teacher education.
The event will be led by Prof. Karen Pashby and Dr. Ana Benavides – researchers from the United Kingdom specializing in Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development.
Professor Karen Pashby from the University of Manchester specializes in Global Citizenship Education, examines critical and decolonial approaches in teaching, and collaborates with teachers around the world. Her work connects theory with practice, promoting reflection on inequalities, power, and sustainable development in education.
Dr. Ana Benavides Lahnstein is a researcher at the University of Manchester focusing on Environmental Citizen Science. She studies how to effectively teach about climate change in an engaging and evidence-based way.

Presentation of the theoretical foundations of critical Global Citizenship Education and the latest research in this field.
On-site event with online streaming
• Open practical workshop for staff and participants from outside APS
17:00–19:00, room 4313
The workshop will focus on the tool “Teaching for Sustainable Development through Ethical Global Issues Pedagogy: A Resource for Secondary Teachers” and on strategies that support a reflective and critical approach to contemporary global issues in teacher education.
Participants from outside APS interested in joining the practical workshop are asked to register with Dr. Dobrawa Aleksiak at daleksiak@aps.edu.pl by 1 December 2025, 14:00.
